Fairhaven helps service the needs of people of 150 people. With Facilities in various locations around the coast including, Point Clare, West Gosford, Tuggerah, and Kincumber. At their Point Clare site, they have the Op shop, a new arts and craft centre, a Recycle and reuse shop called Xanadu. Sue’s main focus is fundraising to raise money to fund their multiple facilities. They do this by their funds raised from their OP Shop, Xanadu recycle centre, the many market stalls, cash housie and Bingos plus also accepts donations from anyone in the community.

Surprise Guest Speaker – Deborah O’Neill from the Federal Labour government. Deborah just dropped in to introduce herself and to invite our association to contact her on any issues that she could possibly help with. Deborah also told the group of the $900,000 worth of funding they have just assigned to Coast shelter which helps homeless people on the Central Coast. The Association has invited Deborah to come back at another day to give a more formal talk.

GENERAL BUSINESS

Boathouse Marina – Zaga had done some research and has found that at present the application of the 50 Berth Marina is stagnant. The Department of Lands said that in regards to the application there is currently nothing happening and they are waiting on the developers to come back with more information. They also said that the only public land that will be affected is Brisbane Water and council has relinquished that responsibility to the department of lands. It was also found that the research that had be conducted about how the marina would affect Brisbane water can only be used for a maximum of 3 years, and that is due to expire in a couple of months. Within the original application there were no plans for a refueling, a pump out station or any other toilet or shower facilities. Gosford council has confirmed that they have NOT received any application to extend the Car park. Jon has said that for now we will just monitor the situation and the group will take action when necessary.

Train Noise – Fred Beringer said the train noise is still the same, and showed the group the graph of the decibels of the noise levels and how they have reached dangerous levels. He also asked the group to call the Complaint line 1300 656 999 if they hear the screeching.

Disabled parking at Woy Woy and West Gosford shopping centres – Jon Fearon ( on Behalf of Joan Johnstone) has said that we received correspondence from both shopping centres, and he is satisfied with the letter that he received from Woy Woy, but the one that was received from West Gosford was not so satisfactory. ACTION - The group will now ask Gosford Council for the accessibility report for both shopping centres to check that both of the car parks are within the plans that are on file.

Pot Holes Glenrock Parade – This has now been fixed and is no longer an issue.

Bambara Road Hieroglyphics – the Association would like to see this become protected within the National Park. And we currently think that this is happening so we will not take any action.

Tunnel along Bike track at Point Clare – Ian Rowatt has brought up the issue that the tunnel along the bike/walk path near the Volunteer marine rescue is quite dangerous with a sharp blind corner, where bike riders are flying around the corner with the high possibility of hitting a pedestrian or another bike rider. Ian being of an engineer background has come up with a cost effective and safe idea of putting in a guard rail along the inside corner of the tunnel to push the bike riders further out of the corner making them more visible to people coming in the opposite direction. Action – the association will write to council with Ian’s and the groups concern as well as his idea for the guard rail. Karys Fearon moved this and Zaga Palalic 2nd it.

Identifying local landmarks – Jon showed the group his presentation on a community in Northern Queensland who arrange for local heritage landmarks to be sign posted with a brief history and photos, as well as brochure that accompanies it with further information. The group was impressed with this presentation and would like something for our community. Action – The group will write to the community group that was responsible for putting their one in place, and ask them how much it cost, and how they arranged to have it done.

Newsletter – We received funding from council to produce only 1 newsletter. So now the group will approach local businesses to see if they would like to advertise within the newsletter to help the association to fund our other ones.

Community event – Lisa would like to see the group host a community event, and asked if there was anyone could help run it. A great idea of an Easter egg hunt was brought up and it could be a good day for the local kids. The group will look into again after the new year.

Association name change – Jon brought up the issue that if we can change the group’s name from Association to Community, we may be eligible for more funding and grants. Action – The group will investigate the benefits of a name change, and will also bring it up in the next newsletter to see how the community feels.

Couche Park – Helen would like to see the council take more action in regards to the erosion at Couche Park. She felt that it is becoming a serious problem and that the council’s suggestion to plant Mangroves was not an appropriate solution. She would like the group to keep an eye on anything the council might be doing.

Jon Fearon declared the Meeting Closed at 9.15pm

Next Association Meeting to be held at Point Clare Community Hall. Commencing 7.30pm Thursday 10th November, 2011
